I have a heavly loadeded VMWare server that has developed a strange problem. The gist ot the problem is that when one of the guest clients reboot the vm nic stops working. I would be able to do anything with it until Tuesday night when my plan is to patch and reboot the host.
Dustin was looking for a fix in the knowledge base while I came up with this little work around.
1. set the current (now nonworking) nic for DHCP
2. shut the guest down
3, In the VMWare Console set the properties for the machine and change the old nic to point nothing.
4. Add a second virual NIC and boot the machine.
5. Log on and verify you now have a working NIC
6. Reset the IP address for your server on the new nic
7. Shut down the server and remove the non working NIC.
8. Restart your machine.
It's not a pretty solution, it's not graceful but it works and it will get me through till Tuesday.
