We're in the process of changing our backup server to a new machine with 7.5 terabytes of storage attached; this will let us pull disk to disk to tape. It sounds easy enough but, trust me, it's been a long strange trip.
The card we needed for our attached storage no longer comes in PCI and we ended up with a PCIe card. Needless to say, the card won't work in the computer we had slated for the job so at the last minute Jason got us an inexpensive computer to put the card in (we'll upgrade that rig next budget) and we're off and running. So now I move the SCSI card for our tape library into the 'new backup server' to find it won't boot with the card in it. I don't know what the issue is but as long as we can go disk to disk, things will be alright for a short time.
So I've got everything ready to start pulling disk to disk on the new server tomorrow night if nothing else crops up. I've been pulling backups of users' files with XCOPY lately ... I'm really looking forward to getting Galaxy up and running on the new server, even if we have to buy a new SCSI card for it.
