It seems like I just keep coming back to Google Reader for my feed reader. Every so often I stray away and try out something else, but I just keep coming back. My latest efforts to replace Google Reader was Outlook 07; I like the fact that Outlook lets me read feeds offline (it's my favorite feature of FeedDemon, which I refused to pay for so I had to go back to Google).
So now Google has offline support for Google Reader, it's called Google Gears. It downloads posts and takes you offline when you want to be able to read offline. Even though it downloads posts quickly, it's a lame solution because you have to download before you go offline.
I don't care for the Outlook solution, I don't want to pay for FeedDemon, and Google keeps me looking for other solutions. Anybody got a better free solution?
Have you tried Thunderbird yet? I've been using it for a while but I'm trying out Google Reader myself now (and I just installed Google Gears tonight). http://infotech.lakeviewchurch.org/2007/06/04/mozilla-thunderbird-vs-google-reader-for-feed-reading/

I've been testing Pageflakes and Netvibes because of their widget support and the ability to customize. You might want to look at them both. Not sure about the offline aspect though.
BTW thank you for your post on using the Feedburner Animated Headline in your signature file. I can't get mine to animate, but your instructions were very clear.
